Several chapters of Persephone's Torch first appeared in the following magazines: "Hare," "The Houdini Challenge," "Roustabout," and "The Unbroken Line" in Kinesis, "Blocking" in The North American Review, "Heiress" in Three Speed, and "Casting Shadows" in The Pikestaff Forum.

The play described in chapter nine is based on Winnebago Trickster and Hare cycles as recounted in Pail Radin's book THE TRICKSTER: A STUDY IN AMERICAN INDIAN MYTHOLOGY (Schocken, 1972).
